International Program Competition
The Banff Rockie Awards, the Festival's international program competition, recognize excellence across 14 television program categories. The categories represent the widest range of television genres: Animation; Arts Docs; Children's and Youth Programs; Comedies; Continuing Series; History & Biography; Information and Current Affairs Programs; Made-for-TV Movies; Mini-Series; Performance; Popular Science and Natural History; Short Dramas; Social & Political Docs; and Sports.
The principal prize of the Banff Television Festival, the Banff Rockie Award, is a polished bronze sculpture that is both evocative of the Festival's mountain setting, and emblematic of the highest international achievement in program excellence.
The Global Television Grand Prize, a $50,000 cash award, goes to the entry judged Best of the Festival. The NHK President's prize of $25,000 is awarded to the best entry produced or post-produced on HDTV. Two Telefilm Canada Prizes, each worth $20,000, are awarded respectively to the best independent English-language and French-language Canadian productions.
